Villa Terra NobileVendicari Nature Reserve , West Sicily
With families looking ahead to the summer holidays, where better to spend it than on a villa holiday in Sicily? Ticking all the boxes (gorgeous villa, stunning location, warm Sicilian sun, private swimming pool, close to beach/pretty town, child-friendly facilities) is the beautiful Villa Terra Nobile
Villa Terra Nobile has been designed with families in mind: all furnishings are child-friendly; the open-plan interior is uncluttered; it’s a single storey so there are no steps to worry about; the entrance to the swimming pool is gated and locked, and there is a stock of toys left for children to enjoy.
The stunningly located Villa Terra Nobile enjoys uninterrupted views across the Vendicari Nature Reserve to the sea. The stylish property is the perfect peaceful country retreat, accessed via a farm track, yet is only 5kms from the Baroque town of Noto and the closest beach. Traditionally Sicilian in style, with an ochre-coloured exterior surrounded by terracotta urns, twisted olive trees and low Mediterranean vegetation, the villa boasts wide terraces and a large swimming pool which provide lovely spots for relaxing day and night. Indoors, an open-plan living area and four bedrooms (3 doubles and 1 twin) offer spacious accommodation for a family of eight – with room for friends too!
The large kitchen is ideal for cooking up a feast and dining in style, though the barbecue and alfresco dining area overlooking the pool and vineyards are also sure to be a hit. What’s more, guests can help themselves to the herbs, fruits and vegetables from the garden when they are in seasons such as apricots, figs, grapes and wild asparagus. For an extra authentic treat, neighbour and property manager Giovanni can supply his mother’s delicious home-made tomato sauce and focaccias made in a traditional oven – buonissimo!
For those who can tear themselves away from their holiday home, there is much to see and do locally. One of Sicily’s finest examples of a Baroque town, Noto, is just a short drive away and well worth a visit with its fascinating history (it was completely destroyed in an earthquake in 1693 and was re-built from scratch a short distance away), excellent gelato shops (Caffe Sicilia and Corrado Costanzo get our thumbs up) and an array of palaces and churches. Also for a spot of outdoor adventure, the Vendicari Nature Reserve is on the doorstep, an excellent spot for hiking and wildlife spotting. Those looking to relax might like to sample one of the pretty sandy beaches close by.
